Opening our home to boarding dogs has been a natural extension of our work. It’s more than just providing a safe space; it’s about creating an environment where dogs can thrive, learn and feel supported. Boarding allows us to deeply understand each dog’s behaviour, giving us unique insights that aren’t always apparent during training sessions. It’s also an opportunity to fine-tune their routines, from improving their structure to establishing better sleep habits, which can be game-changers for their overall well-being. But most importantly it provides peace of mind to dog parents that their dog is thriving while they are away.
How We Ensure Harmony Among the Dogs
In a multi-dog household, coexistence is key. We carefully manage interactions, ensuring every dog feels secure and respected. Structured sleep is a cornerstone of this harmony. Depending on the dog’s age and ability to settle, they’ll rest in their designated space, whether that’s on a bed or in a crate. Crating isn’t just about physical boundaries; it’s a tool that helps dogs decompress and feel calm in a busy environment. By respecting each dog’s individual needs, we create a peaceful and balanced atmosphere.
Boarding as a Catalyst for Training
Boarding often accelerates a dog’s progress in ways that surprise even their owners. It gives us a closer look at behaviours that might be hard to observe in training sessions and allows us to implement consistent routines that can profoundly impact their training. During their stay, we maintain open communication with owners through daily updates. These daily discussions cover everything from training techniques to subtle lifestyle adjustments—even down to the types of toys we use for that dog and why. It’s in these casual conversations that owners often discover small but transformative changes they can implement at home.
Often owners are surprised to see how much structure and boundaries we implement in our homes with dogs everyday, and what a positive effect this has on their dog's well being and behaviour.
Treating Your Dog Like They’re Yours—Not Ours
We don’t treat your dog as if they’re ours.
Why? Because your dog isn’t ours.
We treat your dog as if they are yours in order to maintain any rules and boundaries that adher to your life with them, not the life we would have with them.
If we treated your dog like our own, we might inadvertently impose our preferences on them. For example:
We might take them on cani-cross runs, teaching them to pull on a harness. Perhaps something that you can never imagine yourself doing.
We might train them for agility or tricks for hours, while your schedule is already packed with work and family commitments.
We might give them access to furniture that you would never want them to have.
Your dog’s needs, lifestyle and boundaries are unique to your family. That’s why we prioritise working toward your goals, not ours. Our job is to help you navigate your dog’s strengths and challenges and to foster a relationship that works for your life.
The Heart of What We Do
It’s nice to have someone who loves your dog like they’re their own. But it’s better to have someone who loves your dog like they’re yours. We’re here to honour that bond by respecting your wishes, tailoring our approach to your priorities, and ensuring your dog feels supported in every way. When you trust us to board your dog, you’re trusting us to uphold the values that make your dog truly yours. And that’s a responsibility we take to heart.
What we provide for your dog during boarding
Every dog is different, however, there are some daily routines we will always strive for:
a minimum of 14-16 hours of sleep
at least 3 toilet walks
at least one structured training walk
maintaining training
building food drive
a gps tracker for your piece of mind
no more than 4 hours home-alone
Your dog is in safe hands
As well as general safety and management techniques to ensure your dog's are always safe we have gone the extra mile and provide boarding dogs with gps trackers during their stay.
We have teamed up with Tractive to provide dogs that board with us a GPS tracker during their stay. Owners can get updates on their dog's sleep and exercise, as well af peace of mind of where they are.
Additionally, all dogs are secured with an Alix & the Pack name tag with our information on in case of emergency. And all our staff are canine CPR and First-Aid trained.
